How to Write a "Get Well Soon" Message

Writing a "get well soon" message is a time-honored tradition practiced when someone is sick. Not only does it encourage the one facing the illness, but it also allows the sender to express personal thoughts and feelings.

Knowing what to write in your get well message, though, can be a challenge. Much depends on the nature and severity of the illness. You do not want to be morbid or overly dramatic, nor do you want to be insensitive to the situation. While humor is permissible, it must be appropriate.

When sending a "get well soon" message to a relative, friend, neighbor, or coworker, begin by choosing words that reflect your feelings. A personal note is always appreciated and adds extra meaning. Once you have selected a gift basket you can write your personal message to be included inside the attached gift card.

Consider this example of a get well message that can be used in various situations: "I am sorry to hear about your illness/injury. I want to let you know I'll be thinking of you during your recovery. Get well soon!"

That classic phrase, "thinking of you," may be a cliche, but it still carries significant meaning. It can be encouraging for the person to know your thoughts are with them, especially when a terminal illness renders it insensitive and improper to say, "get well soon."

If you live nearby and have a close relationship, you may wish to add an offer to help in whatever way is needed. You can express your proposal this way: "Until you get back on your feet, I'm available to help out around the house. Just let me know what you need." Even if your offer is not taken advantage of, it will be appreciated.

If you are a person of faith, and as long as your friend is not anti-religious, a statement like "I'm praying for you" is usually well received.

When our friends and family members are feeling ill, it is incredibly helpful to let them know that you are there for them. One kind gesture for someone who is ill is to send them a thoughtful, uplifting get well soon gift basket. Your gift card could read something like this, "I just want you to know I care about you and am thinking about you."

When you close your get well message, use a phrase such as "Your friend," "With love," or "Sincerely," whichever is most appropriate for your relationship. Then sign your name.

Your free get well gift card is included with all of our gift baskets. A personalized card to convey your good wishes can have a powerful impact. It is a signal that you really do care.
